Animal shelter bans pro-gun supporters from adopting dogs
In light of the recent mass shootings across the US, a California animal shelter has announced that it is banning people from adopting pets if they don’t support strict gun control measures. A statement detailing the bold new policy is currently making waves online.
“We do not support those who believe that the 2nd amendment gives them the right to buy assault weapons,” Kim Sill, owner of the Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks, wrote on the organization’s website. “If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.”

Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks recently added a new question to its adoption application: “Where do you stand on gun control?”
Kim Sill, founder and owner of the 11-year-old animal rescue based out of Janss Marketplace, announced the move late last month in the wake of a series of mass shootings around the country.
A Thousand Oaks pet shelter asked adopters if they support gun control. Then came the threats.

Thousand Oaks pet shop no longer lets some gun owners adopt its dogs and cats
The founder of a Thousand Oaks dog and cat shelter has enacted a new policy forbidding some gun owners from adopting pets there, triggering numerous threats against her.
Kim Sill, 61, announced the new rules in the Shelter Hope Pet Shop’s weekly newsletter in late May.
“We are pro-gun control,” the newsletter says. “If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.”
Animal shelter to NRA and gun restriction foes: No pets for you
“This is the only thing I can do to make the point that mass killings by people armed with guns have to stop,” said Kim Sill, owner of Shelter Hope Pet Shop.
If you want to adopt a dog or cat from this Southern California animal shelter, you have to be 25, prove you can provide a pet with a good home — and support gun restrictions.

Pet Stores in LA County May See New Restrictions
SpectrumNews1 – LOS ANGELES – Caring for up to 100 dogs and cats on any given time is all in a day’s work for Kim Sill. She’s made it her life’s mission to stop people who are mass producing pets and selling them.
Kim was instrumental in changing laws in L.A. County that required all pet stores to only offer dogs, cats and rabbits that were rescued.
Film Documents Woman’s Effort to Save Dogs
VCStar – During five years of rescuing animals, Thousand Oaks resident and filmmaker Kim Sill came face to face with animal abusers, hoarders, gang members and owners of puppy mills. But, Sills also encountered everyday heroes who also spent their time and resources saving animals from death row.
She shows both sides in her new film called “Saved in America,” which documents her time working as an undercover investigator for an animal rights group and a peaceful protester in Los Angeles.
